Kilmore Street Medical Building - Christchurch

This 3 level building currently under construction has been designed with a presence, robustness, and sense of quality.

The building contains operating theatres, day stay facilities and consultant rooms for a range of medical practices.

The contemporary highly glazed façade has deep vertical and horizontal fins for sun shading that provides moderated light to all four sides of the building.

The large square floor plates with minimal columns provide maximum flexibility and the ability to adapt to the changing needs of tenants. A large centrally placed glass topped light well provides daylight deep into the centre of the building at all levels.

As it is a hospital and specialist centre it has been designed with as an ‘Importance Level 4’ building. This means the building has been designed to remain operational after a 1 in 500 year earthquake. The seismic resisting structural frames have been contained within glazed elements on the façade to become an integral part of the architectural design.

The building contains a number of environmental design features and a Green Star rating is being applied for utilizing a custom tool specifically designed by the NZ Green Building Council.

The building is due to be completed in August 2013.
